Spreading the Word of Pod: Getting More People to Listen to Podcasts

Sallie Goetsch speaking at PodCamp SoCal in 2007

‘Professor’ Goetsch gave an informal presentation entitled ‘Spreading the Word of Pod: Getting More People to Listen to Podcasts’ on September 27, 2007, at Podcamp SoCal in Ontario, California.

As with most un-conferences, the event was somewhat chaotic, but there were some great presentations in spite of the ferocious interrogation lights shining in the faces of speakers.

Here are some of the suggestions people had for bringing podcasting to a wider audience.

  • Subscribe them to podcasts through TiVo
  • Establish links back to your podcast through Yahoo! Answers
  • Use PodcastSender to send download links to any podcast by e-mail
  • Hold podcast parties: invite friends for a demonstration of how to listen to podcasts
  • Have them call in to listen to your podcast using Phonecasting
  • Send podcast episodes via cell phone with FoneShow
  • Take out pay-per-click ads that point people to your podcast blog
  • Interview well-known bloggers and journalists on your show: they’ll do some of the promotion for you
  • Set up smart playlists for your friends and family
